Let’s Capture the Dark – Together
There’s a special kind of stillness that settles over Naramata after dark. When the wind calms, the lake quiets, and the stars begin to emerge—one by one—it feels like the night is inviting us to pause, to look up, and to listen.
This spring, we’re inviting you to celebrate that magic with the return of Capture the Dark, the International Dark-Sky Association’s annual nightscape and astrophotography contest. Submissions open May 1st, and it’s your chance to join a global community of dark sky advocates, photographers, and stargazers in sharing what we risk losing to light pollution—and why it’s worth protecting.
✨ Explore the contest here: capturethedark.darksky.org
But that’s not all.
To celebrate this global event right here at home, Naramata Slow is launching a special local Instagram contest for anyone who submits to Capture the Dark. We want to spotlight our own spectacular skies—and the people who treasure them.
📸 Here’s how to enter Naramata Slow’s local contest:
Submit your photo to the Capture the Dark contest between May 1 – June 30.
Post your image on Instagram and tag @naramataslow.
In your caption, tell us why this Naramata dark sky moment matters to you.
Our favourite local submission will win a Dark Sky Merch goodie bag—plus eternal Naramata stargazing bragging rights. 🌌
Whether your photo captures moonlight over the vineyards, starlight on the lake, or a meteor slicing the sky above Giant’s Head, this is your chance to be part of something big—while celebrating something beautifully small: the view from right here.
So dust off your tripod, set your aperture low, and let’s see what the night reveals.
